Life on the Road

Steven has been here with me for one week and in that time we have managed to tour the sites of Bangkok, have drinks at a bar in Pat Pong where the Thai girls out numbered the guests by about five to one (but actually seem to enjoy dancing with each other, which gave the whole sordid situation a more uplifting veneer of innocence); take a river taxi; see the lights of a Bangkok night from the world's highest open air bar, travel to Phuket; rent (and crash - that would be Steven) Honda Dreams for the day; volunteer on Koh Phi Phi tsunami relief for an afternoon (they still need volunteers!); spend a morning snorkeling; get covered in insect bites (me); ride a ferry through a storm causing 8 foot swells; ride a local bus - standing up or sitting on our packs - for four hours; have dinner in a hotel that might very well have been a brothel (given the Thai ladies - and ladyboy - in lingerie singing on stage); get victimized by our first (and subsequent 30) leeches; and spend a harrowing morning on a 50-year old local bus that seemed to stop every 50 feet and broke down on the side of the road an hour and a half into our last minute mad dash to the Phuket airport for our flight back to Bangkok, getting us there exactly five minutes before they closed boarding for our flight (thanks to the conveniently situated motor-taxi driver and his non-taxi-motor scooter driving friend). It has been quite an adventure!

Today we are off to Kanchanaburi and Erawan falls, and we'll be heading to Cambodia on Tuesday. The adventure continues...

We just wanted to let everyone know that we are safe, and very happy to be together and alive :)
