Put One Foot in Front of the Other...

We spent a good part of our first week in Vietnam walking. We walked to the market, we walked to the bar, we walked to dinner, we walked to the park, we walked to the sights. I walked to the real estate offices, I walked to lunch, I walked to the market, I walked in circles, I walked past cyclo drivers, ready to give me a ride; I walked past moto-taxi drivers, pleading to give me a ride, I walked up stairs, down stairs, in heels, in flats, in sandals. I walked a whole bunch. Then I woke up one day and couldn't walk.

Upon further investigation, I formed the theory I had Achilles Tendonitis, a condition that occurs from repeated walking when one is not accustomed to so much walking.

So for the past week and a half, I have been hobbling around Saigon, trying to keep weight off my foot, taking taxis down the block and hoping that this condition will go away in the very near future. I have a city to explore!

Ouch! I've had that in the past from hashing too much. The good news is that it goes away eventually with enough care. Stretching and Birkenstocks have made a big difference for me. I also put "Dr. Foot" orthodecis in my running shoes. I found the best strech for me is to sit on floor with my legs in front of me while grabbing my big toe, flexing my feet, pulling back and leaning down. Another good one is to rest the toes of one foot on the wall in front of you and lean forward. I feel for ya toots.
